Bollywood artists storm Lagos for festival of India

Celebrities that included seasoned flutist, Tee Mac, joined organisers of the Festival of India in Lagos last Saturday, when they unveiled its programmes. While Tee Mac entertained the guests, a group of Indian artistes also staged a dance. Other celebrities pledged support for the festival in which Indians in Nigeria are collaborating with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, West Africa. Amid the evocation of the people and exploits that gave India its strength culturally, politically and economically, the chief organiser of the festival, Mr. Bolaji Rosiji, said the event slated for August 2016, themed Celebrating Cultural Unity and Diversity for National and Global Peace, would showcase the cultural spectacles of both countries. He stressed that it was an international annual tourism extravaganza. According to the former president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, the project is being planned to be of global proportions. Rosiji said it would complement efforts by the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism and its counterpart in Lagos State to turn the city into a tourist haven. He noted that the festival often attracted huge crowds in the many countries where it was staged. He said, “It attracts millions of tourists annually to have an inestimable impact on their minds and hearts. At the Lagos festival up to 50,000 visitors and local participants are expected to gather at the Tafawa Balewa Square, venue of the event. “The procession will display an unprecedented, colourful and very rich cross-cultural spectacles by a mix of ethnic troupes which will promote collaboration in various sectors. These include the economic, cultural, entertainment and diplomatic.” Co-Chairman of the festival, Diwesh Mishra, said it would host the cream de la cream of Bollywood and other renowned traditional and contemporary stars from India and Nigeria
